COLDSTREAM HILLS RESERVE MERLOT
This very fine merlot is the companion wine to the Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon that captivated us in the last Guide. It hasn't disappeared totally from the shelves and is worth searching out. Current release 2000. A sweetly fragrant, ripe merlot of real substance. The nose is subtly complex and richly endowed with spiced plum, mocha and loganberry-like smells. Beautifully integrated Bordeaux-style oak adds to the wine's aromatic appeal. In the mouth it's smooth and velvety, rich and long, with ripe. fine-textured tannins woven through it. Serve it with roast beef.
