ROSEMOUNT ESTATE MOUNTAIN
BLUE SHIRAZ CABERNET
From a difficult vintage, interrupted by heavy rain, this seventh vintage of Rosemount's flagship from the Mudgee region, won two trophies at last week's regional wine show. The region's
cabernets tend to be particularly firm and tannic, making the marriage of
cabernet with softer shiraz an appealing option. This was the best of several such blends to rate well in the show. It's a big, well-proportioned wine with layers of intense fruit, matching toasty oak and a firm backbone of tannin. It's probably seven or eight years from its best drinking and worth trying to see Mudgee at its best. Chris Shanahan, Sunday Canberra Times
